The Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirement in the European Banking Authority's PSD2 directive will affect merchants, payment service providers, and issuers when enforced in almost all European Economic Area countries on 31 December 2020.
While SCA will provide a higher level of security for card not present (CNP) and e-commerce transactions, depending on what technology is used to implement SCA, it has the potential to adversely affect the customer experience, conversion rates and sales.
